What do you think about the latest proposal from Deval Patrick?

The plan calls for providing universal access to high-quality early education for children from birth to age 5. It also calls for fully funding K-12 education, allowing extended school days in high-need schools, making college more accessible and affordable, and allowing community colleges to expand efforts to provide skills needed in the workplace.

“This is about creating opportunity and economic growth. After twenty years of good work and experience at reforming education, we know what works,” Patrick said in a statement. “If we are going to accelerate our growth and create opportunity, we must invest.”

As a mother I don't mind a little bit more in taxes for free pre-school and kindergarten. But I understand how some people may not be as enthusiastic. For example NH has universal kindergarten with no income tax.

Higher-income earners, who pay for this for their kids anyway will end up subsidizing the low-income ones, who can't afford it. Do you think it's better for more equal opportunity from the start and will result in a better prepared future workforce or it's bad because it's income redistribution?

How would this affect daycare business?

Is he saying birth through five, because he knows he wan't get it all, may be just universal kindergarten and a year of preschool?
