Stay safe everyone and hope you are all stocked up on supplies. Wish I was there, would give anything to be in a real snow storm. I seriously hate all the freaking rain we get.

Will the T continue to run? Isn't it mostly underground? I have only been to Boston a few times so not sure.

If it gets really cold make sure you turn on the faucet so it drips a little so the pipes won't freeze.

I grew up in western PA and have been in some great snow storms and remember the blizzard of 78.

When I lived in Seattle we had a few freak snow storms which basically shut everything down, and a few here in portland too but the ones in Seattle were worse.

Is it snowing now?

I have been waiting for the snow all winter. I think the winter is pretty dull and useless without it (especially for kids).

I think this situation just exposes the vulnerability of a car-centric lifestyle. In times like this the advantages of a shorter commute become apparent, especially in NE. Imagine, if you could walk to work or school, then it wouldn't be such a big deal. Plus, if you are in a condo or apartment, you don't have to deal with power outages.

I grew up in a place where snow was a regular occurrence, however school was never cancelled and power was never lost, because everyone walked to a nearby school and everyone lived in apartments. On the way home, kids would have snowball fights and go sledding on a neighborhood hill.

Because of cars, my kids can't have that experience (just when I take them somewhere, or with neighbors in the yard)...

The birth rates will go up in 9 months like they did in 78!

Remember the T includes not only subway and light rail but also buses, commuter rail and harbor ferries. They all shut down at 3:30.

It started snowing about 10am in the city. I'm watching ch 7 (WHDH) now. Coverage seems pretty good.

I'm pretty sure condos and apartments can loose power.

Of course they can. Look at the Hurricane Sandy victims on Staten Island.
