I just moved to Billerica for a job (short term notice for apartment hunting). I don't really know anyone in this area. I tried going to some local places but its mostly older couples as far as I can tell.

I'm in my mid 20's. I've been to Boston/Cambridge area, but that puts a heavy toll on my wallet each time. I was hoping to find some places a little more local to my area.

Does anyone know some good places I could go out to and meet people around my age?

I guess it would depend on the kind of places you like to go. There is the Sports Bar McKees in Billerica. They have bands on weekends. Farther out, Brewery Exchange in Lowell is a place UMass students and younger singles go to. Brewed Awakenings is a funky coffee house also in downtown Lowell. UMass itself has night classes and events.

In the other direction is a Barnes & Noble in Burlington, huge, always packed with people working on laptops and hanging out at the Starbucks.

There are a lot of outdoor meetups in Southern New Hampshire.

The site that sounds like Yell + Help might lead you to some further exploration of your new area.

Enjoy the journey.

The Tsongas Center in Lowell is heavily booked with indie/hiphop/metal/etc concerts all year long. Pick some for artists you like, then just walk in and start talking to people when it's showtime. Common tastes in music have launched many friendships. (And, as the personal ads say, "friendships and more." )

Suburbia has always been the place that people in their teens and twenties flee from every chance they get and escape "permanently" as soon as they can - only to find themselves repeating the cycle that their parents went through. ("OMG, I couldn't wait to leave Chelmsford behind when I was 15, now here I am married and expecting a child and looking for houses there. ") The only friends I have out that way are middle-aged and are happy homebodies. But one couple has mentioned visiting a place oddly named "Hong and Kong" where they say "all kinds of people, all ages" hang out, especially on karaoke nights. Karaoke counts for big fun in the hinterlands beyond 128, realize. (LOL)

The one place I can recommend NOT frequenting around there is the Dunkin' Donuts close by the prison. New parolees usually aren't the best crowd to fall in with! A friend of mine who actually did really and truly turn his life around put in some years "inside." He says the first stop everybody makes after they're sprung is that DD.

You also could always get a dog, the classic social ice-breaker. Best o' luck!
