Championship last night. They beat the runners-up Lexington High by 200 points. Not bad from a middle class city with a 25% East Asian population that some deride as "Chinatown South". Asians value education, and the team, with two whites and two Asians, dominated the whole match against Lexington. Just have to brag a little because I am always excited when Quincy wins something worthwhile, especially the kids.

Congrats to N Quincy! If anything, it proves that a great education is there for the taking at that school if the desire is there.

It's hard to believe someone can turn this into a negative conversation.

Re-read my post where I used "Chinatown South" and stated how "some" posters have derided the city as such. That was the purpose for my notation of the racial make-up. I very much like my Chinese neighbors...they believe in public education, hard work and family. As for over-under achievers...many kids of white working class families in Quincy are indeed falling behind their Chinese classmates. They prefer to play, drink and waste their lives away. This is a fact. You may not like it, but it is a fact. Just look at the Honor Roll of NQHS and it becomes very clear and obvious.

I've read your posts where you say Chinatown is a ghetto and the connotation of Chinatown South being negative. I personally don't see it as such nor do other mature, worldly, accepting people who understand that there are vast cultural differences between the ethnicities. You like and are proud of your Asian neighbors. So take the title Chinatown South and all that stands for- hard work, family values, importance of education as a compliment.

We just have different ways of thinking. Rubbing salt in wounds isn't my style but from these comments and others you have made it sounds like you had people from people of more affluent communities make you feel bad about yourself or your choice of where to live. If this makes you feel better about your community and yourself who am I to call you out. Consider me "lightened up".

I like my neighbors because they are good people, but I am more proud of their kids, whose achievementes I applaud because I volunteer at their schools (after-school programs). No one from other towns have ever made me feel bad about Quincy, but it's nice to know that four good kids from this big city can stand tall in front of formidable academic challenges.

I house sits right on Wolly Hill, but my family still lives in Milton. I go back and forth between the two. I do not have an inferiority complex about any town or city. Both Milton and Quincy, my two homes, are fine places. It is doubly strange that you would find issue with such a positive achievement from an awesome school like NQHS, but let's move on.

My assumptions are not based on a few posts. I have been on these boards a very long time.

I found no issue with the NQHS accomplishments and that was made clear from the get go. It was your need to point out the racial and ethnic make up that I called you out on.

In regard to not feeling inferior, then I stand corrected, I misunderstood why you felt the need to "rub the salt in the wounds" of those more affluent communities. There are only 2 reasons I can think of that a person would do that and I gave you the benefit of the doubt.

Congrats again to the kids of NQHS and all the hard working students who took part in this event!
