I am considering a job offer in Lawrence, and am looking for the right place to live that is within a reasonable commute and that has a vibrant and walkable downtown. One town that I'm considering is Salem. What would the commute be like between downtown Salem (MA) and Lawrence?

It's a bit of a slow go but not too bad, Route 114 the whole way. Probably 45 minutes each way depending on where in each town you are actually coming from/going to.

I commonly commute from Brookline to Lawrence and commute usually less than 45minutes, so a commute from Cambridge or any areas close to 93 is quite easy.

It takes a good 45 mts from Andover, and should be the same for Lawrence. I take 114 all the way and during peak times it can be slow.
Lowell is another option. It has a great city feel, a lot to offer.
