Then I moved to Ipswich and it was amazing---few storms and very little snow (relatively speaking). Even when we did get snow, Gloucester would get nothing at all.

I knew it was something to do with the elevation of Worcester (central plain or plateau?) and I learned that out here to the east we get this great ocean effect that moderates the temperatures. Such variations all within one state!
So interesting! I lived in Dorchester near the bay area and it was heavenly for weather! It really was, considering that we were in the city. There was a lovely cool sea breeze (you could smell it) from the harbor/bay and you had less snow than further west by far.

I would venture to say that the towns on the South Coast have the best year-round weather in Massachusetts. They're warmer in the summer and less windy in the winter than the towns on Cape Cod. The rest of the state is just way too cold and snowy.

Best? Scituate
Worst? Scituate

Best because you get the effect of the sea cooling or warming. You get nice breezes, etc.
Worst because you get the effect of the sea. Noreasters, hurricanes, etc flood the city. Etc. The 100+" of snow we got in Worcester is nothing compared to 12" of flooding in damage

I could be convinced that the best and worst are also Nantucket.
