hi sorry the pics arent that clear i can take more if necessary but ive never seen an actual cockroach before and found a few of these "beetle" type bugs in my new apartment just wondering if anyone can identify this bug whether it is a cockroach or not? (i showed the bug to my landlord and they are not sure if its a cockroach and wont fumigate until they know)

Looks like it to me...google images to see if they look more familiar to you, because it is difficult to see the coloring.

I would say so. Most exterminators will identify it for free if you can catch a live insect and put it into some kind of a container and bring it in to them, possibly from a photo like this if this is all you have. If you are in a multi-family or apartment, try to find out from your neighbors if they have had any current or past problems with this.

Looks like a roach to me too. I wouldn't sleep tonight if I were you. And throw out all your food, oh, and for heaven's sake please don't sit on the toilet!

Put it into an empty jar with a cover and take it somewhere to have it identified. It can happen to anyone, especially in an apartment building. I lived in a place where they cleaned out a guy's apartment and I got his cockroaches! They were on the kitchen counter in the middle of the night and they scurried away if I turned the light on. I put it in a jar and the management of the complex identified it. Then they had to spray for them.

Looks like a roach to me. I moved to the south a few years ago and see the big ones all the time (outside) now. It's possible it could be a wood roach. When I was renting an apartment in MA my landlord called me and told me I might see a wood roach or two. We had tree branches that were touching the house and the landlord had them cut when one of the tenants discovered the roach. Those aren't like the nasty German roaches, not that all roached aren't nasty. I would try and capture one and bring it to an exterminator to identify. If they are German roaches, the whole building would need to be sprayed to get rid of them.

That is so nasty. I heard they like to live in electronics such as TVs because they are warm. So if you move from a place with roaches, abandon all electronics because you can bring them with you.

That's a roach.

If you're landlord won't call an exterminator until it's been identified, just put a live roach on your landlord's back and if she screams; then you'll both know if it's something that doesn't belong in your apartment.

I can't really tell the size of the bug in the pic, bug the occasional large cockroach isn't anything to worry about (it's gross, but it's city life). It's the small cockroaches that you need to worry about, and need the attention of an exterminator... if you're seeing many small roaches then there may be a "family" amongst you.
