We need to Alaskify in the summer and Floridify in the winter (particularly during those 24 inch snowstorms everyone has forgotten about). I plan to write a strongly worded letter to my state legislator.

The balkanization of Boston's neighborhoods is obvious to all. I also think the finlandization of the South End, Chinatown and the Leather District to the powerful interests of the Back Bay is inevitable.

I'm still moving to Canada either way.

If Nova Scotia was ours, I'd be up there in a heartbeat.

And to think, it could have been:

Battle of Fort Cumberland - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

But the past few days, I'd even take Newfoundland.

The only connection I can think of is Springfield. Like Hartford, it's on the Connecticut River. It's far closer to Hartford (and the Connecticut border) that Boston ever will be. Both are served by I-91 and both have an I-291 north of their given downtowns. When the roof of the Hartford Civic Center collapsed in 1978, where did the Whalers go? Yep...Springfield. I'm stumped on any other comparisons.

True, but I don't think they mean that. I think it must be related to New Yorkers taking over CT and making it sort of yuppie land. Flashy cars, parents competing for the *best* schools for the kids, *best* towns, not being down to earth ordinary folk. Gotta be that.

Is this sort of like the "massachusettsization" of New Hampshire?

Half the nutmeg staters think they are the sixth borough anyway. Hartford was a quiet little New England capital, now it has one of the highest murder rates in the nation, all pretty much due to the open sewer line that runs up the I-95/I-91 corridor from NYC. The sludge is reaching central MA now.

That's the other perception about Connecticut. People in other regions of the country hear my state get mentioned and think the ENTIRE state is affluent and well off. Our two "money" areas are most of Fairfield County and the Farmington River Valley to the west of Hartford (i.e. Canton, Simsbury and Avon). A sizable chunk of New Britain is the hood (we ARE called "Hard Hittin'" for a reason). I also stay away from Hartford's north end in broad daylight, too.

Does Rhode Island have a "money" area besides Newport? I visited that city once and felt sooooooo out of place!

I always thought of Conn. as a state where the blighted cities are surrounded by very affluent towns. Rhode Island is, I think, less so. It has some very scary cities, but there are parts of Providence that are just gorgeous. I also love Bristol RI...absolutely beautiful little town with a bike path right to Providence.

The bastardization of the whole entire New England cannot be stopped. It's just a matter of time. The best one can do for humanity is to dig as many three feet deep pits and bury lots of half empty glass milk bottles and hope for the best. The end is near and the connecticutization of the entire western hemisphere is inevitable.
