Well, after a very intensive weekend in Norfolk co. house-hunting, it looks like we have secured a rental in the Wrentham area - but only after a tiring search! We decided that the schools in the whole area were good, so looked for towns we liked. We started in Wellesley as I like the downtown area, only to find the properties within our budget were bad and route 9 traffic not good! We moved on to Newton to the "inviting" Cape Cod house which was only inviting if you were a lover of fungi and damp! Then onto a lovely antique house in Needham which was perfect - but too small. We then moved further out for bigger houses and the semi rural feel, and loved Westwood and Medfield and Walpole - but no properties to rent!. Then we discovered Franklin and Wretham...and it looks like that's where we are headed! Thanks for all the advice from everyone - you all really helped us prepare for our visit!

Congratulations!!

Once you get settled, check out the Wrentham Outlet Stores. You can sometimes find some pretty good deals there! If you'd like a nice dinner out, there's a lovely Italian restaurant in Hopkinton. They used to be on Main St but just moved to the corner of South St/Downey St. It's pricey but the food is delicious. I believe it's Cafe Italiano. :-)

Default Congratulations!

I have really enjoyed "lurking" on your post b/c we are about to do the same as you have done.

Franklin was high on my list from the beginning, and I hadn't even heard of or thought of Wrentham, so thanks for the tip!

Best wishes for your new life in Boston!

Default You'll like Wrentham

Wrentham is such a friendly town. We enjoy swimming at Lake Pearl in the summer as well as sitting on the deck at Tootsie's Ice Cream (and eating ice cream, of course). The Big Apple Farm has great apple and blueberry picking, a terrific ice cream stand (do you detect a pattern here?) and really nice scenery. The downtown common is classic New England. Then there's the 175-store Wrentham Outlets on the outskirts (so as not to upset the New England charm of the downtown and neighborhoods). I think you'll also enjoy visiting the nearby communities of Norfolk, Walpole, Foxboro, Medway and Millis -- friendly places that just feel right. FYI, Norfolk has a wonderful new library and a terrific skating rink (not new but very enjoyable). For a great meal, try the Eagle Brook Saloon just over the Wrentham line in Norfolk. It's like a western saloon with a big round staircase, a rustic look and great steaks. It is family friendly.

It's hard to believe this rural town is so close to Boston and Providence (as well as the football stadium). Being in Wrentham is almost like being on vacation. Best wishes!

I think you mean commuter train to Boston?

Check out MBTA.com > Official Website for Greater Boston's Public Transportation System

Congratulations! I can understand the dearth of rentals in Medfield and Westwood but I drive by lots of "for rent" signs in Walpole every day! However, I think Wrentham is a nicer town so it looks like it all turned out for the best.
