Hello Everyone,

For the past year and a half, I've lived in 3 states and had the same car(I'm making payments on it, but I own it). In Ohio, I paid $80/ month. For the same coverage in CA, I paid $141/month. Now, I'm in South Lawrence and was getting insurance quotes. Several "large" companies said they don't service MA. I got a quote from assurance and progressive and they said my insurance would be $300/month.

I know CA only goes 2 years back, but Ohio and MA go 3-5 years back. But, I think $300/month is OUTRAGEOUS! And, I haven't had any tickets or accidents and my credit score is ~752. Does anyone have an suggestions for me? I can't swing $300/month.

Seems awfully high to me. Personally, I have all my insurance with a local company. I find they offer the best combination of rates and service by far compared to many national brands. Try calling your local agent who sells policies written by Arbella or Safety. I've had good luck with both over the years.

$300 per month for 10 months or 12? Do you have a low deductible? Are you under 25?

I would assume the rates to be higher in that area because of crime rates and perhaps number of possibly uninsured drivers but $3000-$3600 seems steep.

I agree with Arbella having great rates and service. We switched from Commerce to them and saved thousands on our fleet. We also have some personal vehicles insured through them and found their pricing to be very good. However, under 25 is a game changer and even on a clunker, in a low risk area, you will pay $2800.

Liberty Mutual has very low rates. Try them out.

I am 25, but my boyfriend (that will also be on the policy) is 24. He turns 25 in February.

It's $300/month for 6 months. In 6 months, we MIGHT move to NH. The quotes there have came up for about $75-$100/month depending on our deductible.

I'll call safety, Arbella, and Liberty Mutual today.

Thanks everyone.

Auto insurance in MA will vary quite a bit based on age and location. If living in Lawrence, learn what a "jumpin" is.

Under 25 driver and living in Lawrence has to be one of the highest auto insurance rates in MA.

It's because you're in Lawrence. The rate in neighboring Andover is probably 1/2 that.

This sucks because I can stand in my driveway, and 5 mail boxes down it says “Andover”

I did call the suggested places. Liberty brought me to $180, waiting on the other 2 places for the quotes.

Why do the need my current policy to give me a quote? I've never been asked for my current policy before.

Also, has anyone let them put the tracker device (supposed to save 5%-30%) in their car?Just wondering what the out come of that was and if it's worth it?

Ok, so I lived in Lawrence from 2009-2 months ago. Our Combined Car insurance was $2400 a year because of how terrible Lawrence is. Lawrence is a "Step 15" on the car insurance scale, and we moved to Amesbury "Step 5" which lowered our Car insurance by $1000 a year.

it?
That is nuts but it's reality. Your zip code dictates pricing.

They ask for your current policy so they can compare apples to apples by duplicating the coverage. Any extreme price differences should be carefully scrutinized. A good agent will tell you how they were able to save you money.
