I joined this message board to help get some information on commuting times. I realize they vary from person to person but I imagine there has to be some general consensus times going form point A to point B. I recently accepted a teaching job in Dracut and imagine I will need to be there around 7:30 am. What kind of a commute would I be looking at coming from Melrose? I plan on moving closer to the area in the next few months, but this all happened very quickly. If this was already discussed could someone please link me the post. I am also split on whether to go 93 or rt 3 and possibly driving past lowell rather than going through it. Thank you for reading.

93 North and Rt 3 North move very well in the AM. I commute sometimes from Revere to Dracut and take I-93 north the entire way. Probably a 40 minute ride and usually hit 80MPH or so on 93.

It's the commute into Boston that's terrible in the AM.

On the way home, 93S is typically the same way. Speeds of 60-80MPH are normal during commute time.

Thanks for the reply. Do the 495 exits clog up a lot going 93 north? Also am I better off going around Lowell than through it?

You'd be looking at 35-40 minutes with very minor traffic problems. The 93/495 interchange can get a bit slow but you'd be going the other direction so it shouldn't be much of an issue.

Taking 93 North to Rt 113 may be the best option to get to Dracut high/middle school. On the map its a bit longer than taking Route 133, but 113 is a nice country drive and you wont have to deal with that stupid rotary/Bridge Street in Lowell to connect onto Lakeview ave.

I commuted from the Lowell/Dracut border to exit 37C and it took me 30 minutes or so.

Thanks, I was planning on going rt 113 rather than rt 38 through Lowell. How bad does traffic get in Lowell once school is in session? Do the 95 ramps back up onto 93 a lot, I've seen this in the past.

You won't have the rt 128 drama since you'll be going the opposite direction in the AM/PM. Actually thinking about it... in the AM try going 495 to 133 into Lowell, and never take the Rt 38 exit unless you like traffic lights as that's the retail district..... On Rt 133 there is only 1 traffic light between 495 and Lowell which is almost always green and traffic typically moves at 40mph on that rd until you get into town, with that in mind it actually might be quicker in the morning.

On the way home rt 113 will absolutely be quicker though since heading South on Bridge st is a problem any time of day.
