Ok, your secret is safe with us. I wouldn't want those old farmers chasing you with pitchforks or sending a herd of pigs running through your front yard.

My conservative acquaintances from Bolton are actually executive yuppies, including a fundamentalist here and there.

The OP has revealed a preference as a political moderate so it sounds like they would be fine there.

I am politically removed. A topic in itself altogether, but the less politics / church influence an area has the better. Not to get too side-longed, but I lived in Colo Springs for quite some time and the conservative evangelist community drove me INSANE.
Carlisle may be a better choice for you than Groton then.

Groton's politics are very polar with strong left and right presence side by side in town.

Carlisle is much more politically moderate, with some liberal passion on the environment. Political passions in Carlisle are incited around conservation, climate control and recycling. I find the townspeople much more respectful of differing viewpoint and the quest in enjoy daily living more so than in Concord and Acton, more obviously left leaning towns.

Did the OP say if he was going to rent or buy? Nearly all of those towns mentioned have almost zero rentals. If he's buying, then he better have at least $800k lying around to get into Concord/Carlisle or at least half a million for the other towns mentioned. House prices are a lot more expensive than what he's used to in Western Mass and you guys just happened to list some of the more expensive towns in Eastern Mass.

That's what I was thinking too. I suggested Bedford and I thought it wasn't as crazy expensive as the others. It has Capes and ranches and reminds me of a WMass town more than any of those others unless we're talking about the equivalent of Wilbraham or Longmeadow which are fancy suburbia.

I looked at some of those capes when I was considering relocating to Bedford. My trusty olfactory system screamed mildew every time. They are not exactly the blue light special at 400K these days. A nice home will cost 600k in Bedford. The other thing about Bedford is that given the traffic on 225 and 62 and the air force base, it is not exactly the bucolic town the OP originally described.

Best amount of house for the money of the towns we have mentioned would be Stow and Groton and the not-yet-mentioned Maynard.

Actually last time I checked it was very real. 3 lanes of pavement going each way divided by a barrier of trees.

.
Ugh, that's true of every "bucolic town" inside 495. North Sudbury is supposed to be bucolic, but it takes me 15 minutes to drive 2.5 miles to my daughter's school in the morning. I knew traffic was bad before I moved here, but now that I'm actually here it's even worse than advertised! I know it's the same in Concord, Lincoln, Wayland and Weston because I drive through those towns regularly during rush hour. I don't think the OP will find what he's looking for inside 495. Unfortunately if he moves outside 495 he still has to deal with the traffic coming into Concord on Rt-2.
