Just wondering how long it usually takes an oil company to deliver oil when you call them? We are going on day 3 and waiting. Gonna shop around some more in the future. Also, I saw on here people were saying you could get diesel from a gas station to top up your tank for a day or so until the oil company shows up. Does that work/is it true/will it break my burner?

Why don't you call the oil company and ask when they'll be delivering?

Thanks. I did. I just wanted to know what the usual timeline was so I could shop around if their timeline was off.

Why not just sign up for an automatic fill? Then you don't have to worry about calling them or when they'll come.

Only use it for hot water heat most of the year, so no need for that. But thanks. Just trying to find out what other people are dealing with in this situation for shopping around in the future.

I'd recommend to shop around for another company. We switched to gas for this year, but had oil and service through Devaney previously when we had oil heat. If we called that we needed oil, they were there the next day and I'm sure that if we told them we were almost out they would have even come that day. I also second that previous recommendation to sign up for automatic refills - they will come on a regular basis and top off the tank - then you don't have to worry about running out ...

Thanks breezy. Yeah, I don't know what's going on. I'm just waiting for these people at this point because I don't want to tell them to get lost and then we have to wait days for someone else. Definitely using someone else after this. I mean, it only takes 5 minutes to fill my tank. They can't be that busy for days on end

If you don't use much then when they come to fill the tank they won't put much in is all. It will save you a lot of hassle in terms of continually checking your tank, calling, and waiting. As far as I know, they don't charge extra for the service. So, I can't think of a reason to not take advantage of it.

I'm not on automatic refill (can't afford it), so this is exactly what I do. They always come the next day during the week or first thing Monday morning if I call during the weekend. My company will do an emergency delivery after hours or over the weekend, but their surcharge is horrid :shudder:

Why not dump oil and go to gas?
