I was raised in MA, but haven't lived there in a long time. I remember we had squash pie, not pumpkin pie, but what I want to know is, is squash pie actually pumpkin pie, or is squash pie made from other winter squashes?

Depends how you make it, but generally you just use butternut squash to make squash pie. I'm sure there are "gourmet" recipes out there that mix in other types of squash or fruit though.

I was raised in Stoughton, Ma and haven't seen a squash pie since I left in the 1970s....but I liked them. They were from butternut squash, a little stringy but lovely anyhow.

We never had pumpkin pies in our house, but I love them & make a really nice one with a bit of bourbon these days. I've been hybridized with the South, living in S. Florida for so long.

Pumpkin usually. Sweet potato pie or mincemeat if I wanted to switch it up.

My mom is from Quebec province, so that meant no pumpkin pie at any holiday. She didn't like it. Not sure if that sentiment goes for all from there.

We seemed to have minced, pecan or sugar pie (popular in Quebec) at holidays.

Whatever that stuff is in the can, that's it.

I'm surprised so many people have mince pie--we always had it at Christmas and we finally found real mincemeat up in Freeport ME so will be having the real thing for Christmas. (I know, we COULD have made mincemeat from scratch.)
