I'm pretty sure he's talking about those self service bays with the high pressure spray wand and foaming brush. Stay far far away from those brushes. They'll scratch your paint worse than Scrub-a-Dub.
To be honest, I don't think 99% of people even see the hairline scratches that we're talking about. Not that they can't see it it they look close enough, but they just don't care to. As long as the car has no obvious dirt it's considered clean, and any car wash will do that for you.
dravogadro: I just remembered a place I pass by on Rt-9 quite often: Clean Machine in Framingham. I haven't tried it, but the prices on their website seem very reasonable and the location is convenient if you do your shopping in Framingham.

Those circular scratches you get from improper washing drive me NUTS. The dealer washed my car a couple of times after service and put scratches all over the car. I didn't have any time this spring or summer to address them. With the crazy real estate market and family commitments, I just didn't have time to take care of my car as I have in the past.

I grew up not far from the Clean Machine. It's a pretty old car wash and I'm not sure they have an undercarriage spray.

Unless it has changed in the past 15 or so years, I wouldn't waste your money there.
It seems that just about every place has an undercarriage wash nowdays, no?

I thought so too.
I'll run my car through the wash, but as soon as i hit the road again it's dirty in 10 mins. This time of year is tough because the sun melts the snow which flows on the road and just gets sprayed back up. II've given up on keeping my black car clean in the winter

That's why I only do the undercarriage once in the spring when I know the salt is gone for good.
