I have a son in 8th grade and we've decided with much thought to send him to a private school if we can swing it. We live in Winthrop and it's just too much of a mess to make him finish out his education there.

We are separated and struggling with money, so can probably only afford catholic schools. Does anyone have recommendations for which ones may be best. He does like basketball and baseball, but is not a jock so we're not looking for a school that caters to that group. He is very bright and likes the performing arts as well so a well rounded environment would be best. Does anyone know of a school like this?

Welcome to C-D!

Since you're in Winthrop, I would think Pope John in Everett, St. Mary's in Lynn, Malden Catholic and Saint Clement in Medford would all be reasonable to consider. I do believe, however, that you may be a little late for the admissions process for Fall 2014. The Archdiocesan Entrance Exam was already given in November and December. The deadline for admissions for Malden Catholic, for example, was December 15.

I would reach out to those schools and see what your options are.
