I don't see that happening in MA unless they create a separate legal entity for the area serving the liquor (separate legal filings, financial statements, etc...) and create a separate entrance.
not desperate, why not - cosmos / wine... If you try it- you may just have a great customer...or at least a happy one.
Ah, that is a good strategy...maybe if they put the tavern in front of the grocery store, housewife happy hour, throw away that grocery list and come home with more groceries than one could possibly need. Too stewed to cook dinner, that's okay, grab one of those prepared meals, pop it in the oven before hubby comes home, throw away the aluminum container, who'll know.
I think it will. You have to see that place - their dining area is as big as any fast food restaurant around here. And their food bar area is huge. Tastes like cr@p, but a big selection. It's a weird market - kinda a mix of Trader Joes and Market Basket. Lot of their own brand stuff there. Not all of it good, but enough good stuff that you end up going back again over and over.
Compared to California, no, your food choices are not going to be as good. That kind of stuff doesn't sell as well here anyways. But you will find better basic food stuff - I actually find the regular market meat here better than your average, and while we don't have the fancy or trendy stuff, we get the basics well done. Every couple of weekends you can take a drive into Boston for things like Frommagio Kitchen, or down to Providence, which has some really good ethnic groceries. There is not a lot real local, but a lot if you drive a ways.
