Hi,
I need some help on trying to figure out of buying a place around Sharon/Randolph and Canton area would be a good idea. As a consultant, I pretty much travel a lot so I have to leave for the airport on Monday's around 5am to get to Logan and usually come back on Thursday evenings 6pm+.

I've seen quite a few references to the i93 North 'nightmare' situation. If I were to travel between these times:

Leave for Logan Airport: Monday: 4am-7am
Return from Logan Airport: Thursday :6pm+

Would I still be greatly affected by it?
I currently live in Waltham so going to the airport takes about 20 minutes on Mondays. Coming back, I'm pretty much stuck in traffic on i90 and takes about 40+minutes to get back.

I've looked at quite a few locations from Woburn to Framingham and now I'm looking southwards because it appears that my budget of $400k max seems to be more reasonable around Sharon/Randolph and Canton.

Any feedback will be great for those who live or have lived around these areas.

Traffic on I93 is generally worse than on the Pike, so judge accordingly. 4-6am you'll probably be all right, 6pm, not so much.

K - thanks. Sounds like i93 has a lot more traffic in general.

I used to commute from the RI/MA border to Boston. The first day on the job I didn't leave early enough and it took me 3 hours to get to work. No joke. I93 North is just awful. If you can avoid being on it during rush hour, you'll have a much happier life.

Thanks Mike. I guess I've been spoilt by living in Waltham. However getting into the City on i90 is probably the same too - though I'd imagine its not as bad as i93. If I need to get into the City @ 5pm, I just need to leave Waltham at 3:45 just to make sure I beat the merging of i90 and i95 before the 5pm start.
I'm quite fortunate as I pretty much either work from home or travel to a clients site on Mondays so that actually is a totally different life style.

does the north shore work for you? getting to/from Logan is no problem since you can hop on 1A. even during peak rush hr i can get to Logan in 30 min from Lynnfield.

in General traffic rules: Pike > Rte 1 > 93 (north of City) > 93 South of City

I think 93 south of the city is far and away the worst traffic route in MA. in addition to the standard rush hr pain, you can get stuck in a random traffic snarl at any time (1pm/10am/8pm) in either direction.

I90 is much better than I93 North.

I had to drive from Quincy (I had a listing at Marina Bay) to the Longwood Medical area (my wife had a baby the day before) about two months ago at 5 PM on a Friday. It took me over an hour. I couldn't believe it. I would have thought most of the traffic would be going the other way at that hour. Nope.

its nuts. I was driving from Woburn (right on exit 36) to Milton weekly for a few months (both on weekends and after work) and it was hit or miss. some days i took 2 hrs.

Haha, I agree. Even right now at 11AM google maps traffic says I-93 North from Rt-3 all the way to Columbia Rd. is a solid red line!

Also, the whole area from rt 3 to rt 95 can be a parking lot during rush hour or even weekends.
