I might be moving into a studio apartment in a Belmont attic near Fresh Pond and I was wondering what pests I might have to deal with? I've never lived in an attic apartment before. I'm specifically wondering if rodents or snakes are likely? I'm sort of scared of snakes.

(If anyone's interested, I can answer this question for basements. Most of my experience has been living on middle floors though.)

Bats and squirrels like attics.

I don't know of any pests, but...

You'd be fortunate to find a snake there. The only two species likely to be found in that area are the dekay's brown snake and the eastern garter snake. I think the ribbon snake would be a long shot.

Of course there are rodents. Voles. House mice. Norway Rats. Muskrats. Gray Squirrels. Chipmunks. Groundhog. Jumping mice and voles might be near the golf course too. Perhaps Southern or Northern Flying Squirrels (long shot) nearby. Hmmmn, I'm sure I can drum up a couple of more.

There are of course many other snake species and rodent species, but not in the Fresh Pond area.

A finished attic shouldn't get rodents in there... unless this place is really crap construction. Your summer will be hot though... make sure you've got AC.

I used to live in a in-law ground level apt in an old house and there's spiders every where. I didn't realize how abnormal it is until I moved out (to my current place). Now, I don't even see the # of spiders in 1 yr that I had to deal with in a week in that old place.

No snakes. BTW we are genetically encoded to be afraid of snakes. It is not just you.

If you're moving to the last Belmont apartment I lived in, squirrels.

But yeah, no snakes in attics unless you're in a horror movie or your neighbor keeps his python cage unsecured.

That is a hypothesis. And one not tested on humans at this time.

Thankfully many many people don't buy into it.

I once had a starling that made it's way in the attic, then poked a hole in a makeshift cover in the wall and got in the house. It wasn't scary. It just pooped all over the place, including the kitchen. A lot of fun to clean that up, but a good story.

Raccoons sometimes get in to. Though they're not rodents, so I didn't mention them.
