Springfield to Amherst is kind of a lousy drive, whatever happened to finding something halfway?

I agree about Holyoke and Springfield even though people say some parts aren't so bad. You can do better and not be in such a crime ridden area.

Worcester Cty is in central MA anyway, not western MA.

Yeah, and the more time I've been spending there, the nicer it looks. I decided to rent for a year in Worcester before I decide between Providence and there to buy.

You're right, Worcester county is in central MA... I live in Worcester county, I'm coming from a perspective as a north shore native.... To me, this is the west My perspective is irrelevant though. I also concede, there are many nice parts within WC(most of which, I have not visited) my negative personal experience has resulted in a jaded opinion I suppose... Apologies to all for my brash generalization.

Hello, I moved all the way across the country like you are getting ready to do. I moved from Seattle to Western Mass to be closer to my grandmother. I live in Southampton, which is a tiny town with not much to do but it's about 1o mins to Northampton and 5 mins to Easthampton, 15 minutes to where i go to school in Holyoke it's a reasonable drive to everywhere in the valley. Only problem with living in Northampton is it is a bit expensive but you can find some cheap rental apartments.

Try South Hadley, the west side of Holyoke, or Easthampton.
