Agree with above posts. Soon you will feel safe walking down empty streets, and enjoy the quietness.
Even though I'm an "urbanista", and love city, the quietness of suburbs speaks to my introverted self. If I want to get something done quickly (usually shopping, especially for groceries), I can go to the stores late, and they are empty. Never feel the creepiness.
I also like businesses that are open late, and half empty biz buildings energize me - because I can get stuff done quickly and efficiently, without any lines, and without unnecessary "can I help you with anything" questions. My introverted self feels harassed by way too eager sales people, I'm better off doing things on my own
That said, when I lived in Boston I realized certain businesses / stores are empty in early mornings. Nobody would go to stop and shop at 8 am, or so it seemed I took full advantage of it to save time.

Good one! Absolutely!
I once was looking for a gas station in a tiny god forsaken town, in the evening (around 7-8 pm, which felt like midnight at that place). And a police officer kindly escorted me to the gas station, leading way in his car, with siren in full bloom, so to speak.

There's something about being the only person in an empty commercial building that sends chills up my spine. Maybe I watch too many horror movies
I know what you mean. For me, more like a sci-fi movie where all the people in the town have been kidnapped and taken away by outer space people on their ship, and I'm the lone person left on the empty streets.

The moment I read your description of the sound, I thought, fisher. I've lived in suburbs most of my life, so I'm used to the quiet. Now I'm finding it interesting to think about how there are different perspectives, as I read these posts by people who are creeped out by the quiet nights that are just the norm to me.
