Baby Boom with Diane Keaton . Moves to rural Vermont from the city.... I lived that movie when I moved to Keene Nh, and that's not even rural compared to where she moved to. Although generally speaking Keene is a town in the middle of nowhere surrounded by nothing so I imagine residents on the outskirts can relate ..

There are LOTS of others, though none particularly accurate. Malice, In Dreams, Cider House Rules all come to mind...

Maybe see the movie Fever Pitch for an alternative perspective? Also, these are all only about the Boston area; there is MUCH more to New England.
You do realize the OP was asking about "Low-Class" New England life right?

Also not everyone in a high-crime neighborhood is a gangbanger or criminal.

Someone mentioned "Baby Boom" which is one of my wifes favorite movies.
There was a Jim Carey movie... "Dumb and Dumber" ? I'm not sure but they headed out of Providence RI and went past the Big Blue Bug on 95.
It is funny how we cannot name a movie that has it all like the OP was inquiring about. It seems that when Hollywood comes to the area they don't stick to one town but they jump all over the place so it is hard to get a true feel for one area.
When I mentioned the original "Jaws" it was shot on Marthas Vineyard but actually in spots all over the island and the town was fictional mix of them all.

It was unclear whether OP meant poor ("lower class") or just "low class" in which case wealthy gangsters etc. might still fit the bill.

If OP meant lower class, I'd say "Empire Falls" (albeit an HBO 2-part mini, rather than a movie per se) actually does a pretty good job at looking at class dynamics in a small town Maine.

bler144 shares my confusion about the OP's intent. "Low-class" means, to me, poor, not gangster-y. But I guess I'm wrong.
