Size of area depends on relative scarcity of jobs. How hard will it be for your husband to find a job? How many such employers are looking for someone like your husband? Eastern Massachusetts/Southern New Hampshire if anything may be too small an area. Has your husband started applying for jobs or taken a look at the job market here? It's possible Massachusetts may be completely the wrong place for him to move.

In the unlikely event that your husband has a job where every town in the world is hiring right now, come back with a budget and a list of desired attributes and the people will definitely give you great advice.

Wise advice. The job(s) come first. Where to live is secondary.
