I'm gonna buy $2500 worth of cigs and then sell them for a little less than stores (after tax free weekend).

From mass.gov (below). How's that saying go? If it's to good to be true...in Mass it probably is...

It's usually a good time to buy furniture, appliances or electronics (e.g. smartphone).

For those MA residents admitting to shopping in NH, I would not put that in writing on the internet. The department of revenue could always subpoena C-D for IP addresses and then go to the ISPs for contact information. Technically shopping in NH as a MA resident is tax evasion unless you faithfully pay your "use tax" at the end of the year. Don't self-incriminate and give them any evidence.

This is an excellent suggestion that I've never thought about before. Since we all upgrade our smartphones every 2 years or so anyways, you might as well do it during tax-free weekend. Even if you buy a $600 smartphone for $200 with a contract, MA actually taxes you on $600 (the full retail value of the phone). Let's say you're married and you have a family plan with your spouse. That's a $75 savings (6.25% of $1200).

97% of MA taxpayers do not fill in the "use tax" section of their state income tax return. I'm pretty sure more than 3% of MA residents have either shopped in NH or online during any given year

They don't fill it in, but I would think they would pay the default amount that is put in there.

Off topic, but make sure you get that grass seed down by this weekend if you haven't done so already. The traditional seed-down date in MA is 8/15, but this year was cooler so you could've put down seed on 8/1 and be successful. Better early than late. Also are you overseeding or putting it down on bare soil? You'll need to cut the grass very short and rake up all the thatch if you're overseeding so the seed gets enough sunlight (the key is good seed to soil contact). Also don't forget to water 3x per day for 10-15 min for the first 3 weeks to keep the seed moist.
