And Wellfleet is the Miami of Massachusetts.
And Ware is the Salt Lake City of Massachusetts.
And Williamstown is the Fairbanks, Alaska of Massachusetts.
This is getting kind of fun...

Are you referring to the fact that more homosexuals are migrating to Hull? If so then maybe.

The Castro was factored out, so no.
No "luxury motor coaches" roll down Nantasket Ave to carry Google and Microsoft workers to Cambridge.
No landmark bridges.
No hills.
No earthquakes.
Even substituting Asians for Irish, it's a stretch.

There's no San Francisco of Massachusetts, just like there's no Boston of California. If you wanted to describe the regional cities most similar--i.e. regional hub of a much larger metro area--between Eastern Massachusetts and Northern California, the analogue to San Francisco would be Boston. Even then, SF isn't the archetype so it would be wrong to call Boston the San Francisco of Massachusetts.

I think you could call Boston the San Francisco of the Northeast while NYC would be the LA, but even that's kind of pushing it. Agree with jayrandom that there aren't really any apples to apples comparisons between such different states.

But Hull isn't really the anything of anything. In a ranking of towns/cities in Massachusetts that one would use to compare to any larger city in the country or to peg with an archetype, Hull isn't particularly high on the list. Someone would have to get to Boston, Cambridge, Worcester, Springfield, Lowell, etc long before that.

Exactly what I was thinking. The OP usually makes a lot of sense, so maybe he had one too many mimosas considering it was posted on a Sunday morning.
