Hi All:
I was an "active" member last year (still an over active lurker though ) and finally we have decided to take the plunge and buy a place to call HOME. Wifey works in Billerica and I work from home. So we are looking at houses in Bedford, Winchester, Carlisle, Acton, Westford and Littleton. We know a little about Bedford (since we rent an apartment here for the last 5 years). Our maximum budget is $550K. Recently we saw a few places in Littleton and want to make an offer, before that we wanted to know how friendly are Littleton folks to other race folks (South East Asian)? Sorry I do not know how to be diplomatic hence asking the Q as is.
Thanks Script and Massnative for your replies. As Script has right said even with 550K it is very hard to find any decent house in Bedford, hence we are looking in nearby counties with good school ratings. We are seeing a 2BR/2Bath townhouse this Sunday for 500K and $312 HOA fee. If that does not work out then we HAVE to look for the other places.
Any insights on Littleton folks?
Your budget would go far in Littleton.
The 300th anniversary of Littleton's founding was recently, and the big town parade had a South Asian float with girls from one family doing traditional dance. I believe the article referred to some 20 families in the area. I don't think you'd find any real issue in Littleton being South Asian- increasingly, although the town remains fairly homogenous, there are more Asians and South Asians (and adopted kids- I've known of two local Chinese adopted girls named Kelly!). IBM being right here brings in a lot of different kinds of people. I think it's really good-more like a real place, different kinds of people and backgrounds.
The schools are very good. For $550k, you could buy most new houses except for really really big ones on huge lots. I think Littleton is a very good place to raise kids, from what I've seen. I'm not a parent, but I know many! I'd say Littleton is prosperous without being pretentious/snobby. Lots of tradesmen and normal working people, lots of retired people. Kids all go to the same schools, so there is that thing of growing up with the same kids as they advance in grades and go from elementary to middle to high school.
Decent and new houses seem to sell pretty fast if they're priced properly. I'd say that says it's a desirable town. Best wishes on your move.
Please feel free to DM me if you end up in Littleton.
