I am looking to move to New Bedford, MA or any of it adjacent cities/towns but I have no family over there. Does anyone know of any good family shelters that will take in families quick? Until I can find a job and get up on my own? I am leaving the state I am in because there haven't been any opportunities for me.

I don't know why you picked New Bedford, but it's not an economically thriving area. Depending on where you live now you could find yourself even worse off in New Bedford.

Family shelters? Homeless shelters are for people that are homeless. I do not think they take people in just because they are moving.

Well DM84,

I know for sure I am not better off where I am at. If I were to go to school and get a loan and scholarship my government help for below poverty people were to be diminished and my medicaid taken away just for trying to take a tiny step forward to take my kid out poverty. Or if I get a job a part time job that is minimum wage with no benefits my insurance gets taken away and my food stamps get lowered to less than a hundred dollars a month. Now don't get me wrong I am not going to Bristol County, MA to live off the government. I am going there because I have had several family members that are currently now living there and are economically better off now than they were when they lived in there old states. I am just a single mom trying to find a place where I can start from the bottom and work my way up. I have medical issues that if I were to go at it with out medical insurance. Every penny I would earn would go to it. I just want to leave the south and go back up north to get a job a place and go back to school. I've heard about Fall River being a working class area to live in. I don't know about Attleboro or N. Dartmouth but I am trying to find information about the area.

If you're living in poverty in the south, you will probably be in a similar position up here at least initially. Yes people make more and the minimum wage is higher but everything costs more.

Bristol County as a whole is one of the less prosperous parts of Massachusetts. Moving here to be near family is certainly a good reason to move, but understand there are plenty of people here who are out of work and underemployed who you will be competing with. I hope things work out for you like they did for your relatives.
