Hi guys, started doing work on the new crib in groton. Filled a 5 gallon bucket with about a gallon of cold water from tub and WHAM...it STINKS of sulfur. Like makes you want to gag. I am scared b/c my wife will FREAK out, I haven't told her yet, we haven't moved in yet.

Its well water. No filter. There is a softener & arsenic remediation system. Water tested ok for bacteria.

Anybody have similar experience? What cost am I looking at?

This site seems to suggest it has to do with the water heater:

My sympathy- I experienced this in vacation houses we've rented along the coast of Maine. The owners say that there is not much they can do, it has something to do with the wells. I have never been so happy to return home and take a shower!
I am not certain in your case, but there is tons of information out there, so it must be fairly common. I found this link online and hope it helps:

Reassurance but no remedy.

Sorry to hear that the water smells bad, perhaps very bad. Growing up, a friend of mine had sulfur-smelling water and believe it or not, people drank it and showered in it. Unpleasant as it is, it is unlikely to be toxic as many people use it and tolerate it.

That being said, it certainly is unpleasant and I hope you find a solution.
