I have received a quote today for our field stone foundation house built in 1900 of $4650 for one pump (quality pump) with apparently December discount. I have no idea how much sump pump should cost but it seems steep. Basically it is a pump that will be submersible, and they will place it 2 feet under ground. For 2 pumps with pretty extensive piping we were quoted about 10K. Does anyone know if this is in the ballpark or way to high. We are planning to get more estimates, but we are sort of pressured to use December discount (not sold on it completely).

Way too high. I got one done for less than 2K a few years ago. I want to say 1.5, but it's been a while, and my memory is fuzzy on it. Unless there's something special about the ground/floor, get a second opinion/estimate.

For 10K, I've been informed I can get a full set of french drains in my basement. When you say extensive piping -- did they use the words french drains?

No french drain, just full perimeter. One pump and pipes around to the second pump. They would have to Jack Hammer the floor, but apparently that is pretty standard, and have this fancy looking pipes (he had a sample) under. The pumps are apparently industrial grade, and the way they make everything look is pretty cool, but as you say I should call someone else.

If they're putting two pumps in and a drain system that doesn't sound like a horrible quote. It's never a bad idea when doing a project to get 2 or even 3 quotes though.
