Hello! I live in East Milton, a short walk from the square, the local elementary school (Collicott and Cunningham), the Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts, the local Fruit Market, CVS, and the local playground. We own a single family house with a yard, garage, and driveway. We have 2 children, ages 3 and 2. We love it here, except, of course for the current run of blizzards in the Greater Boston area. We've gotten hit hard. I work in Quincy and drive there for my commute. My husband used to work in Cambridge, but the Red line commute was very tough on him. It is a long, unpredictable commute, I have to say. I used to work in downtown Boston and changed jobs almost solely because of the commute. That being said, I am friendly with all my neighbors, and my kids are able to play in the local playground with other kids with no problem. We feel welcome here (I am of Pacific Islander descent). Best of luck to you!

I'll throw in a vote for Natick. Recently moved here ourselves, and ended up in a family-friendly neighborhood that felt like home right away. Diversity is prevalent and respected, and the schools have exceeded our expectations coming from the Midwest. The town itself is very family oriented, with many activities held on the Common or through the library, etc. It's also an excellent town for youth sports.

As someone previously mentioned, neighborhood 'friendliness' varies moreso block to block than town to town. Once the snow melts, visit the neighborhoods yourself, but as a general observation, neighborhoods close to the elementary schools tend to have many kids playing in the streets.

Thank, chloes3ra! There are actually some properties in East Milton that we hope to look at. I am so glad to hear that you love it there. The commute might be a bit of an issue for my husband who will be working downtown. He would have to take the red line everyday. hmm. You have given me lots to think about. Will keep you posted on where we end up!

Thanks! This is good to know about a Natick. It was also on my short list. And I agree what you are saying about friendliness being at the block level. Hopefully, we will find something near an elementary school.

Another vote for Milton, diverse, safe, and quality of life is high. And somewhat affordable and close to Boston. Good luck!!
