With regards to the South Acton commuter rail station project, no additional parking is being added as part of the project. The lots (including overflow) regularly fills beyond capacity by 7:08am. Just something to take into consideration. I go to West Concord, which usually has plenty of parking.

You are right, my bad. I misread about the upgrades. They are actually putting new station and around 1000 new parking sports but West of Acton (Littleton, Leominster, Fichburg, Ayer). There was some talk about upgrading Acton parking but nothing is final yet. Thanks for heads up.

That may ease up some parking in South Acton and West Concord. I talk to people at both the Acton and Concord stops who come from those other towns, especially Ayer.

Acton is adding additional shuttle parking that will accommodate riders commuting later than the 7:08 express train. The West Acton fire station lot and Mt.Calvary lots currently have the shuttle service. Tbd on start date, location, times and number of spaces.

It boggles my mind that commuter rail stations can run out of parking. This year it seems like all the stops between Framingham and Wellesley are starting to run out of parking due to increased ridership. How hard is it to expand a parking lot or build a parking deck? Especially when you are charging $4.50/day to park! If it takes cars off the highway during rush hour, what's the downside? The thing I don't like about the Acton shuttles is that it adds 20 min to an already long commute.

Parking in Acton is still relatively inexpensive. $50 a year for a resident parking sticker and $2.50 a day for the metered spots.
I do agree with you Parsec. I would like to see more suburbs reconsider building parking garages. I believe one of the main concerns is aesthetics. People are afraid they'll end up with an eyesore like the alewife station.
Thank you SO much all the insights about the two towns. We have a much better picture about the pros and cons of Acton and Sharon - we are leaning towards moving to Acton based on all the input. Thanks again for your time!
