At work I was parked on the street outside my the program I work at. I really didn't even want to go to work today, but I had to because we are a 24 hour operation and no one else was coming in. Well, I went outside and my hubcap on the passenger's side rear was cracked in half. I then was so frustrated that when cleaning the car off I couldn't open the passenger side door and broke the handle off accidentally.

How much is this going to cost to get fixed? Where can I get it fixed (I'm in Randolph)? Is it even okay to drive with one hubcap not there? Is there anything I can do about the plow driver who scrapped it off (kind of jumping to conclusions on it being a plow, but really that was all that going down the street).

Thank you in advance for any help.

How did a plow scrape it off? The driver's side would be facing the street, the passenger side would be facing the sidewalk...

Also, you can drive with a missing hubcap. They essentially just prevent the nuts that hold your tire on from getting rusty.

You can drive without a hubcab. It's primarily on the wheel for aesthetic reasons. Just be sure that your car is operating well and that there is no additional less obvious damage to your car before driving it too far.

The door handle and hubcap shouldn't be too expensive to replace. Go to the automotive forum, provide your car's year, make, model and maybe someone can provide some help. or you can go to the parts counter at your dealer and they can look up replacement parts for you.

How old is your car? In frigid temperatures, plastic gets very brittle. Your hubcap is made out of plastic, so in the really cold weather (single digits), it doesn't take much of a hit to make it break apart. And the same goes for your door handle.

It should be cheap fixes. You should be able to put on the hubcap all by yourself.

Going by the thread title, I was expecting much worse than you're saying!

I think you intended it to say, "Snow Plow SCRAPED My Parked Car".

OP- you can't open the door because there is a big dent or because it froze shut?

I think that the thread title should be "Snow Plow Broke My Hub Cap".

You can also buy a whole new hubcap set for like $30. That's a lot cheaper than the damage my plow guy does to my house siding and stone walls every winter!

Yuck, but at least it wasn't horrible. Last year, the plow pretty much destroyed the back of my boyfriend's car. He has a very old hatchback between the cold weather and the complete incompetence of the plow, his back door was crushed in and the bumper fell off. Thankfully, a neighbor was outside shoveling and was able to chase down the plow and get their license plate, or else they would have just driven off!

If it was more than the hubcap, I would say call your town. But what Miu said is correct - it could have even been a neighbor at that point trying to be helpful with a snowblower. It's a cheap enough fix to just deal with it- but be sure to take pictures and document in case anything wonky pops up.
