I much prefer living in the suburbs than the city. We moved from NY, and I think its amazing that you can live in a place like wellesley, newton or needham and be 10 miles from boston (in NY it seems like you'd have to go 30-40 miles into westchester to find towns like these).

Our neighbors are great and we've made some friends, but it would definitely be easier if we had school age kids.

The driving commute isn't bad if you leave before 7 or after 8 30 (which has slipped to 6 30 and 9 since the snow has been bad and more people are driving instead of taking the train).

My wife misses being in the city more than I do, but I get here every day and she's stuck out in the burbs (she works in framingham).
I remember your post when you were moving up here from NYC. Did you ever find a golf club to join?

Also, with a small child it can be pretty easy to meet other people around town. Just join a club that attracts other young parents like Wellesley Mother's Forum or Parent Talk.

Ardsley Scarsdale and Hartsdale are all pretty similar to Wellesley and are almost as close to NYC as Wellesley is to Boston.

I think Scarsdale is about 30 miles from NYC, Wellesley about 10-12. And it seems longer wih traffic and additional commute times. plus more expensive - re taxes are about three times as high (maybe more) and I think housing is more expensive too. It's a great town though. I would compare Wellesley more to rye, which is about 50 miles from NYC I think.

Mike- didn't find a golf club yet. one young kid is taking up all my time, not sure I'll fit any golf at all with my second coming. I appreciated your advice, you're all over these boards!

I hear you. Once I had kids I pretty much gave up on golf. I just don't have the time. Maybe when my kids are older and have their own lives I can get back into it.

I "hang out" here when I'm watching TV at night (at least in between phone calls) and if I'm stuck in my office I pop on here when I need a break. I really like helping people which is why I spend so much time here and why I do what I do for work.

I'll say it. It's Stepford.
The pressure on school-aged children is a blood sport.

12 minutes?? Got a Google maps directions link? Seems more like 30 minutes when I look. Ardsley seems more like Wellesley lately and it's under 40 to NYC.

I believe they meant 10 to 12 miles as they had just referenced Scarsdale being 30 miles from NYC

Yes. And I live in Wellesley now and drive everyday day to financial district. 15-20 minutes door to door with no traffic.

Right, miles - my bad. Still though, 20 minutes must be when leaving before 7 AM and heading home by 3 PM. At 8:30 AM it takes much longer.
