I echo what others have said in that you should report EVERYTHING to the police, and don't worry about being a nuisance (it's the last thing you should be). And keep on the landlord. His phone would be ringing off the hook if I were in your shoes. If he won't respond, then he needs to be reported and dealt with.

I second this. When I lived in CT, I called the police about something that turned out to be nothing. I was apologizing over and over again, and the officer told me, "Listen. We'd rather that you call 911 and be wrong than
not call 911 and be hurt."
