I did not know that. They were Puerto Ricans in the 80s when I lived there, or at least that's what my family called them.

Salisbury being honky tonk, amusement park, strippers, motorcycle gang hangout, etc. goes back over 50 years and they have done little to change that. I left the area in 2000 and the beach strip had not changed much. It was still the same old Salisbury Beach.

They did finally knock down an ugly cinder block building that was known as "the eyesore." Now they want to put the restrooms in there and the state will pay for most, or all, of it BUT the state doesn't want the restrooms to be where the eyesore was, on the dune. Salisbury won't give in so here we go again, nothing getting done because they won't listen to reason.

Some people suggest putting benches or tables with umbrellas on the flattened cinder block area but, nope, it's got to be bathrooms. They need new bathrooms but there must be other locations that would work and still be right near the beach.

Supposedly they've given money to those honky tonk bars to clean them up, put up attractive awnings, but nothing ever happens. Loads of motorcycles, lots of dirty looking storefronts and now there are expensive parking meters too.

There are town organizations that are trying to clean up the appearance of the beach strip but not too much ever happens. It's a nice beach on a hot day and there are at least two good places to get a good sit down meal plus a couple of great pizza places that have been there forever. There is a theater (attached to one of the restaurants) that has live shows--most are not interesting to me but I saw a great comedy show there. But progress is agonizingly s-l-o-w.

Motorcycles? You guys are thinking of Hampton beach... there's hardly any motorcycle groups down Salisbury beach.

North end Boulevard runs the length of Salisbury beach....Its the main the road between 286 and 110.
That would be saying 'all of salisbury beach is bad'...Sorry but will have to highly disagree with you on this one.

Are you talking about the old pavilion? Where abouts is/was the eyesore?
Also, condos are popping up everywhere in that area. Perhaps once people start moving in and more taxes are being paid...that investment will go towards cleaning the area up.

The road that runs along Salsibury Beach is Atlantic Avenue and it's nice as far as down to the Merrimack. North End Blvd is to the north end of the beach.

No, it used to be shops, just a cinder block ugly little building. It is on the sand across from the bars. Now it's a cinder block slab. I don't know what it used to be called but the owner absconded and left it there, I don't think he paid taxes in years.

The only pavilion I know of is the place where Sea Glass restaurant is located and I agree that with new condos, especially the ones in progress on Beach Rd. there will be more tax revenue and maybe things will get better. However, some money has to go into a new police station that is in the works--do they ever need one!

He's referring to what I believe was a "garage bay", that they had food vendors and stuff in. It was a concrete building with 3 or 4 garage doors that were open for business vendors awhile ago. It's on the beachfront across the street from Uncle Eddie's and the Carefree Arcade.

I believe they were trying to get a developer to buy out everything on the beach and in the center, but there were some hold-outs, that guy included that made it difficult (and has stopped it from happening so far).
