Hello folks,

so I was undecided whether to move out of Mass or stay, but after I got a good job here in Newton area, we kind of decided to stay in Massachusetts.

I am currently looking at some cities/towns like Framingham, Marlboro or Marlborough, and Hudson, I am looking for a quiet place, it can be a city but not Boston-Like city if you know what I mean! And of course, lesser crime rates.

I kind of mentioned the above towns because I cannot afford more than 300K 3 Bedroom house, please share your experience and I will greatly appreciate it. If there are other towns you could recommend that houses are not too old (I want a house that is built after 1960 preferably) as long as I could afford it, since the bank is willing to only give me about 300-320K.

Thank you for reading!

I am assuming your response was for my thread //www.city-data.com/forum/massa...a-commute.html and not OPs thread. I will be commuting mostly during rush hours (6-9am, etc.)

IMO, Hudson is probably the nicest of the three towns you've selected. It has steadily improved over the years and, while still solidly working class, shows signs of heading towards an middle/upper-middle class existence.

Finding a decent house for $300K in town is becoming increasingly more difficult. At your price point, you'll likely be limited to smaller mid-century ranches or older turn of the century homes.

I agree that Hudson is the nicest of the 3 towns you mentioned, but I might pick Framingham for a better commute to Newton.

Not sure how the prices are running now, but the nicer areas of Framingham are mostly north of rt. 9. The houses with the best chance of fitting your budget would likely be the older houses and mid-century ranches Shrewsburried suggested might fit the budget in Hudson.

South of rt. 9, your best bet for something nice, although again likely to be modest if it fits the budget, would be well toward the west side, like west of Framingham State, and southwest from there to the areas around the reservoir and in the southwest corner of F'ham near the Ashland line.

Thanks everyone I appreciate it.

As far as Hudson, I agree that it is nice, however I just mapped it, and looks like it will be a pain for me to get to work. How about Marlborough? I really heard all the good things about it, plus I can easily afford the housing. Please let me know!

Marlborough wouldn't improve your commute in a significant way ... depends on what section of town.

Have you explored Ashland as an option? It is a bit more east than Marlborough while also being closer to the pike/90. You're budget will buy you less in Ashland, but you should be able to find a house within it.

I agree, Marlborough is not much better for the commute than Hudson. I said before the best for the commute is Framingham. Do you have kids, or will you have kids? Might want to consider schools. If you do go with Marlborough the East side is really nice, the rest not so much.

Ahsland is boring I have been there multiple times. Framingham is good, but I don't want to be in the south side where I can afford, the north is more expensive.

Do you mean the side closer to Wayland, Wellesley, Natick? I do want to buy in that area, since I don't want to be close to Worcester.
