Good to hear about BU being near Longwood. Is HMS somewhat close?

The latter is considered part of the former and is situated along its eastern fringe (Huntington Ave.) Longwood Ave intersects with Huntington and traverses its namesake "medical area," which includes among other things the Mass. College of Pharmacy and Children's Hospital. The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Joslin Diabetes Clinic, and Beth Israel and Deaconess (now merged) Hospitals round out the neighborhood in terms of large-scale institutions. "Umpteen" specialty and general physicians also practice there.

Sorry to dig this back up, but forgot things the ladies want to know:

Is the area you guys recommended convent to Somerville? Is it a good neighborhood to run in? Is Harvard Sq. runner friendly?

I believe Cambridge was suggested for the women and parts of it are very convenient and border Somerville. Kenmore, Inman, and Porter Squares all border the Somerville line.
Some of these areas are better than others to run in. From a safety (crime) perspective, they should be fine. The only drawback is par for the course with running in any city-frequent stops due to stop lights, running through occasional crowds of people, and crazy divers (people don't know how to drive in Cambridge and Somerville in my experience). That said, the Esplanade runs along the Charles and offers miles of running/walking trails along both the Boston and Cambridge side. Many runners I know from Boston and Cambridge run here. Memorial Drive is also closed on Sunday mornings in the Spring and Summer.

Ok, Longwood is not convenient to Somerville. East Somerville (which some would consider less desirable, but certainly more affordable (it is where I live) has a CT2 (limited stops, limited hours, fast) bus to Longwood. But I wouldn't call it convenient.

Harvard Sq itself isn't good for running, with a huge BUT, it is along the Charles River which IS great for running.

I wouldn't call the BU area great for running, again, except for the Charles River corridor which is nearby. BU is on the other side of the river from Harvard Sq/ Cambridge, and Somerville is (kinda sorta) on the other side of Cambridge.

Which part of Somerville? Different parts of Cambridge are more convenient to different parts of Somerville. I personally feel like the best place for running is along the Charles, and just by the nature of geography, the parts of Cambridge with the best access to the river tend to be further away from Somerville.

That is Medford or West Somerville.

Not really convenient to BU or Longwood. Especially not Longwood, IMO.

Running there is good as there is the Alewife / bike path / Mystic River corridors.
