Hi! Towards the end of September we are looking to spend a couple of days on Cape Cod or Nantucket. I was hoping to get some advice/opinions about each place or which ever one you might have a preference for and recommendations on nice safe towns to stay in while on either.

We enjoy touring historic homes, museums, golf (not sure we will be bringing our clubs though), local shops, local attractions. We will be traveling with our 2 dogs.

I greatly appreciate any help and advice! Many Thanks!

Second that. Will be cheaper to stay on the cape for a few nights and do Nantucket as a day trip. Vineyard is nice too

Years ago we rented a cottage on Nantucket that allowed dogs in May and got a better deal due to the shoulder season which you will also be in at the end of September. The thing that cost us the most was getting our car on the ferry which was over $400!
The cottage rental was about the same it would be on Cape.

Nantucket is great to visit for a day or 2 but unless you can entertain yourselves beyond beach and boats there is not a lot to do. Cape Cod has so much more to offer.
The whaling museum on Nantucket is neat.

A good idea is to stay on Cape and take in Nantucket as a day trip. The ferry goes out of Hyannis and it takes about 2 hours. Marthas Vineyard is also a nice place to visit and the ferry out of Woods Hole in Falmouth is about a 40 minute trip so more time on island.

Have fun.

Thank you very much Cape Cod Todd for sharing all the great information. I had no idea it would be $400 just to get our car over there!

We are going to stay on the Cape and do a day trip to Nantucket (and possible Martha's Vineyard) thanks to everyone's great advice.

Many Thanks!

It is much cheaper to bring a car to MV than Nantucket but still it might be easier for you to rent a bike, scooter, or jeep when you get there.
Nantucket has one town, Nantucket. It is small and the main street still has cobble stones on it. On the other side of the island is Siasconset but it is more like a village than a town. We stayed there in a tiny rose covered cottage and it was great but we had to drive to do anything beyond beach and relaxing.
MV has several towns some are more vibrant than others in this order Oak Bluffs, Edgartown and Vineyard Haven/ Tisbury.
Each island does have a bus service that you can use to get around.

Since you appreciate historic homes be sure to visit "the campground" in oak bluffs.

There is so much to see and do I don't know what to suggest first!

Have fun.
