It's got a lot of people (relatively speaking) in what is otherwise a very sparsely populated area.

Are you asking if it has a small town type vibe or are you asking if 35,000 is considered a small town. I would consider Franklin suburban other than the area west of 495 which is more exurban. Definitely not small.
