There are some very similar threads on this topic already, but I wanted to ask specifically about Framingham. I mapped the commute to Hudson as about half an hour during non-peak hours. Anyone have experience with this commute? I will only be in the area for about 6 months, so I was planning to visit Boston fairly regularly to do some exploring. I like the idea of being able to catch a train into Boston on the weekends, have a few drinks and not have to worry about parking/driving. Thanks for any advice.

I commute on the Framingham line daily, but I wouldn't recommend it on the weekends unless you can ditch the car altogether and walk to the train. However, you don't want to live within walking distance of the Framingham train station. Trust me. If you are considering Framingham, might I suggest Natick Center instead? The commute is only ~5 min longer to Hudson, but you'll be in a more vibrant and safer downtown area with the same train line into Boston.

I grew up in Framingham but I left the state 10 years ago. I would agree you don't want to be living in downtown Framingham or spending much time there at night unless it has improved in the past 10 years and I imagine it hasn't

The biggest problem with the idea of using the trains to go into Boston to go drinking is they stop running well before bars close.

Are you paying the difference? If so, I'll take a place in Natick Center, too. Thanks in advance!

Thank you for pointing this out. I actually checked the schedule after my original post and noticed that...

Thank you all for the feedback. Main takeaways are to be wary of downtown Framingham, reassess my intended use of the rail, and consider Nattick. Good stuff.
