Hello,
We are moving to Boston this summer so need help choosing good affordable rental areas with good schools both elementary and middle as I have 2 daughters and with Indian community preferred if possible and at same time not too far from Main city.

My husband work is flexible so based on schools he can make it work.

Currently with lot of search narrowed to Lexington and Newton but cannot decide which one.

Newton schools:
Middle schools I see are Oak Hill Middle school and F.A.Da Middle schools with good ratings in GreatSchools.org .

Lexington schools:

Wm Diamond Middle and
Jonas Clarke Middle

Please help me which one is better and if the elementary schools in those vicinity good and if so what schools?

Thank you so much for your help.

Shilpa

You can't go wrong with either. Rentals might be harder in Lexington though, I would think.

More importantly what do you define as affordable? Lexington and Newton are 2 of the most expensive places to live in Massachusetts.

What does "affordable" mean to you? How much do you want to spend for rent?

Usually towns with great school systems like Newton and Lexington are not affordable. You will find more rentals in Newton than Lexington though. What is your monthly rent budget?

Anywhere from 2-5k depending on location. You need to give us more to go out. What can you reasonably afford?

Have you even looked yourself? A quick search on Zillow shows the typical 2 bedroom home in Newton rents for about $2500/mo. 3 bedroom homes are even more expensive. You need to lower your expectations if you want to live here on that budget and forget about Lexington/Newton unless you're willing to rent the smallest, most outdated 2 bedroom apartment in the city.

Do you need to be close to Boston? Else a town further out like Westborough or Hopkinton has great school and you should be able to afford a 2 bedroom townhouse at 2.5K. Look at Windsor Ridge Westborough... There is a large Indian community in Westborogh. Drive to Boston can be 45 mins on weekends with no traffic as you don't need to commute requirely. Natick also might be a town to consider it will give you everything Newton has of offer but at a lower price tag. I would recommend Natick or Westborough at your budget. Newton & Lexi are out of your price range. I am an Indian and lived in Metrowest for past 6 years!.
