We're contemplating a move to the area and will have a day at the tail end of an upcoming vacation to look around a few towns of interest to us -- Arlington, Bedford, Reading, and possibly Burlington, though we don't want to spread ourselves too thin in the limited time we have. We have a preschool aged child who'll be close to starting kindergarten by the time of the move, so beyond getting an overall look a the towns, we'd want to check out parks and playgrounds, and take a quick look at the elementary schools (from outside, given the time of year). With that in mind, I'm wondering if anyone could recommend spots worth seeing and driving/walking around in these towns that will give a good sense of the place. Any lunch or dinner recommendations would also be welcome .

Many thanks!

I'm new to the area myself and have been in apt/househunting mode when my job permits it. But a couple of eating places I would recommend that are family-friendly and have unique offerings:

Red Heat Tavern

Rancatore's Ice Cream

Get ice cream at Bedford farms. The original one is in Bedford but they also have opened up an expansion in Burlington near Wegmans. Another good option is the Minuteman bike trail, one of my personal favourites. The trail goes through both Arlington and Bedford. However that may be too long of a trail for preschool aged kids.

There are many good restaurants in Arlington and Burlington. I always felt like the Reading area was a black hole for decent restaurants.
In Burlington, Clover is a great lunch place. It's vegetarian, but offers something for everyone and has a kids menu. To give your child a fun break, check out Robbins Farm park in Arlington.

And Blue Ribbon BBQ is awesome.

I'm sad the Reading center Portland Pie, with its fabulous original pizza crusts, had to close.
