You're driving 85 miles in 75 minutes and you don't run into traffic between 95 and exit 17? I commute out to Westborough and the traffic is moving very slow even beyond 95 heading in even before 7 in the morning, within 95 into Boston its not moving at 60, or even 50, or usually 40.

No, I'm at home with the kids. DH would be able to work from home but would need to go in on occasion.

On days when I had to go into Chelsea at 7:30, I would have to leave home (east of Worcester) around 5:30 before the traffic became REALLY impossible.

The section between the Pike and Watertown Square is very congested, that can easily take 15 minutes alone. Supposing he lives right off the exit in West Springfield, he would have to be AVERAGING over 80 on the Pike. Even if the OP drove like such a maniac, you just can't bet on that to happen in everyday circumstances.

But that is from West Springfield. AMherst, Northampton and even the Longmeadows will take longer.

Studies have shown people to underestimate driving times in general, just as they overestimate walking times.

How about from Grafton or Shrewsbury? Is that doable? What if you only had to do it 2-3x per week?
