Does anyone have any experience commuting from Raynham to Boston (South Station Area)?

I am curious as to approximately how long it takes to drive (with traffic). Are there certain times that are better than others? Luckily my work schedule is fairly flexible so I can alter my commute times to some degree.

Although I have not taken the commuter rail from Bridgewater - I have taken other lines in the past and have since given up on the commuter rail.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I have not done the commute but understand that Route 24 is very bad in the mornings. The SE Expwy is a little improved since the Big Dig but not all that much, meaning it's also slow. It seems that if you can go in really early (6-7) or a bit later (around 9-9:30) you could miss the worst of it, which seems to center on the time around 8 and 8:30, but others can confirm.

Up until August of '06 I often commuted from Taunton via Route 24 to 93 to Exit 18 on Route 3 and the traffic was bad from 6 to around 10 AM and from 3:30 to 6 PM. The trip to Exit 18 should have taken 45 minutes tops. Sometimes it would take an hour and a half because of accidents and tire changers. I found that the earlier I left my home the better. Wind, rain, snow and generally bad weather made the commute a nightmare. If you have to be there at a specific time, I's suggest allowing yourself an hour and 15 minutes to get to S. Station, although on a good day you could do it in 50 minutes.

Ouch. This is why I stick to the train.

I used to work on the Dorchester line but didn't have to be at work until 9:30. I would leave at 8:30 (usually after most of the rush hour traffic) and would most days would be at work just before 9:30 (you should learn the back roads from the South Shore plaza if you're working near South Station - saves a lot of time). I also left work around 6:30 and again because it was after most of the rush hour didn't have too many problems.

Thanks everyone.

Where abouts does the traffic really start to back-up? Is it the entire length of Route 24?

That's an interesting question. Several years ago, I noticed traffic starting to slow down by Route 139/Randolph. Now the congestion starts around Exit 18. I guess that's due to the large number of people that have moved to the suburbs and commute to Boston.

well this morning (I pass route 24 every day) it was backed up right at 495 becuase of an accident at route 106 (exit 16 i think). normally you'll see it start to back up around jordan's furniture or just before.
