Cambridge (Kendall and surrounding) and Boston (Seaport mostly). The incubators and accelerators are there, and lots of other small firms starting out. It's a very rich area for start ups, Boston is only behind the bay area and NY for venture capital investment. Lots of clean tech in the mix. Greentown Labs moved to Somerville from seaport. I believe Fraunhoffer is still in seaport. Tons of biotech/pharm too. Pretty much some of everything. A few friends work in education start ups, sure, some fold up, like Luvo did, but the talents is very very quickly snatched up by others.

It's not worth name dropping or fixating upon specific startups. There are SO many of them out there. Just do a rudimentary job search for the Boston area on monster.com or engage with a recruiter, you will see how many are out there.
