Why is Comcast so poor on Cape Cod? I have heard that Verizon can't put cable over the bridges for food because the Barnstable County government locked into a long term agreement with benefits with Comcast and the agreement allows for the poor internet service. We pay top dollar for internet service and it isn't delivered.

Verizon has pretty much stopped adding new FIOS fiber networks and are concentrating on building out what they've already started. FIOS doesn't even serve most of Plymouth County so bringing it to Cape at this time doesn't sound promising. If they do, it will probably be via a wireless service using 5G technology.

BTW, the county itself may have a long term agreement with Comcast but that doesn't prevent anyone else for applying for a cable license with the individual cities and towns. I'm guessing at this point, Verizon can't justify the cost to bring fiber to the Cape.

What metrics are you using for "poor" service? Here's what I see in South Dartmouth using WiFi. If I connected via Ethernet instead of WiFi, I see more like 300/21 most of the time.

Thanks for the feedback. Is Open Cape another internet service? I went on their website and wasn't sure what they are doing.

There is a push to try to get Open Cape to go residential. Currently it is just available to businesses and municipalities.
