I'll just say that a drive through the rural ME/NH countryside is not like the touristy areas at all. Lots of blight and decay. There's a reason why houses cost so little in some of the areas up there.

I was shocked, tbh, at this the first time we meandered north of the touristy part of the White Mountains. Ditto Vermont's Northeast Kingdom. As my mother used to say, "You can't eat scenery."

The grass is always greener.....

We do live in an expensive area of the country here in Mass. It is easy to look at property elsewhere and think how cheap it is but often there will be a lack of good jobs and different taxes, fees and other things that we don't have in Mass can surprise you.


If you see a house that seems too good to be true you can go to google street view and take a tour of the neighborhood.
