Does it have nice beaches? Good downtown area? Enough there/going on to not feel too much like small town/suburbia? Is it a walkable town overall? Overall vibes?

Beach.MEH

Very nice downtown area- called the square. Terrific restaurants. There is also the marina and Derby Street for restaurants and retail.

Depends on what you are looking for going on. There are a good number of families that spend their weekends at ski houses and beach houses in summer. They don't call it Ca-chingham for nothing.

Depends on what part of town you live in if it is walkable. It is a pretty spread out community with some very rural feeling areas but outside the square are some lovely homes which make it walkable.

very walkable. Plenty to do and won't feel small town or suburban at all.

BUT...

It's very expensive to live there. Maybe the most expensive town on the South Shore (between Hingham and Cohasset). Small capes that need a ton of work will go for $600k+ in the right section of town. If money is no object go for it. It's a beautiful town.

the houses might look pretty but having grown up near it I can say that complete counties in CT look pretty much the same. It's largely hype due to the boats to boston. You aren't really "getting" anything extra.

It's probably the nicest town on the south shore if you include the schools, the downtown, derby st., and the Shipyard development. Also, i'd be remiss if I didn't mention Worlds End.. Very pretty public space, trails and views.

BUT, very walkable would be a stretch, as I'd argue about 2/3 is not walkable at all..Main roads and limited sidewalks, especially south of downtown. I've been vocal about this before, but as a metro-wester, i'm partial to the north shore as it feels and tends to offer a much more consolidated living environment with the same perks as south shore.

Just my two cents!

I grew up in Hingham and live here now so I'm obviously biased but I love it. Great downtown, multiple good commuting options, excellent schools. I'll be totally honest, though, our beach sucks. If you're looking for a beachy community, Hingham isn't it. In terms of walkability, its great if you live close to downtown but you will pay for that privilege!
