A similar salary in Boston is good but the drop in spending power in comparison might be a big shock to your partner as they are not familiar to Boston.

You want a safe neighborhood which is friendly to liberal values is not going to be cheap..
Yes exactly which is why we don’t want to go over our housing budget. We certainly don’t want to be house poor. Dining out and entertainment are important to us.

Thanks for the suggestion! We actually drove through downtown Beverly while we were visiting MA last summer. It looked really nice with lots of restaurants and shops, very walkable which we really like. Will definitely plan to check it out some more on our next visit.

Although with that type of income I don't know why their housing budget is so low.
Hi we are keeping our housing budget a little low for a few reasons. First my partner owns a house here and wants to hold onto it for a while. We will probably go down to Florida a few times each winter and stay in it. Or he may rent it out, not sure yet but he definitely doesn’t want to sell it right now.

Also he has only been out of medical school a few years so he is still paying those student loans off and they are quite significant. However neither of us has any credit card debt and our cars are paid off. We are pretty good about living within a budget. I’d rather spend less on a home and still be able to travel, dine out etc than buying a more expensive one and then be house poor.
