I pay for an online subscription. Honestly, I can't remember what I pay - I think something like $15/month. I also subscribe to the online versions of the New York Times and Washington Post. It is especially vital that we support quality journalism because it is essential to a functioning democracy.

I only get the Sunday Globe - It's $6.00 a week. I also get a daily top stories from them and will read anything that appeals to me. TBH, I don't have time for a daily paper.

+1 New York Times, Washington Post
-1 Boston Globe - Would change my mind if they'd stop hiring student bloggers to write articles.

I get my news entirely online.

Newspapers make most of their income on advertisers, print and online, no guilt here.

The financial situations of most of the major papers is dire. But the Globe does still have real reporters and does have at least some commitment to investigative journalism. It is very important to support the local newspaper, wherever you live.

(The complaints about the quality of journalism have been around as long as newspapers have been around. Yes, there is always some valid reason to complain, but if there is no journalism, there is no information getting to anyone.)

Boston.com is trash. It is not reflective of Bostonglobe.com.

I stopped buying the Globe when I lost interest in matters related to Boston city per se. Boston.com has nothing to do with the full Globe. I do pay for the Post and NYT online. I stopped buying the paper edition of the Times and the Globe because my eyesight is lousy for the small print and I prefer it on line. I get the weekly paper in the regular mail from the town where I will be moving, and likely will buy it from the paper box out there on the day it comes out. It's actually an excellent little paper for local issues and business. (The Plaindealer)

I use the "10 free articles a month" or whatever the limit is on both the Globe and NYT. I'm too cheap to pay for either a paper or online subscription. I also watch the news every night, listen to NPR sporadically during the day, as well as read the three news apps I have on my phone.

I gave up on Bostondotcom ages ago.
